A statement from Henfield Haven CIO Trustees regarding Impact Initiatives. 25.11.2020
As you may already know, in June this year the Henfield Haven suffered a significant setback. Staff and volunteers had already been forced to close the Haven’s doors and reconfigure services due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but to add to these difficulties, our contracted service providers (Brighton based charity Impact Initiatives) withdrew their services from the Haven. Their Board of Trustees had decided that because of Government Covid-19 restrictions, the Haven was no longer a viable proposition.
In light of this situation, the objective of the Henfield Haven CIO was to secure a safe future for the Haven and to ensure continuation of our vital and irreplaceable care services for local families. We believe that this can best be done by providing high needs dementia care and carer support at the Haven rather than on a remote basis. The ‘Save our Haven’ GoFundMe campaign received overwhelming support and various inventive fundraising ideas inspired the generosity of local people. Local groups and businesses rallied with practical and financial support, while the Haven benefited from the backing of local councillors and our MP. Volunteers reopened the café to support dementia customers and carers while providing a safe and socially distanced community café, achieving record-breaking takings in the process. |
The result of this incredible drive is that enough money has been raised to see the Haven safely through until spring 2021, ensuring that our community vision is, for the short-term, alive and thriving.
